📖 About the exhibition
The exhibition delves into casta painting, an original genre developed primarily in the Viceroyalty of New Spain, alongside examples from the Viceroyalty of Peru. These works document the racial and cultural mixing of colonial society starting from three groups: Spanish, Indigenous, and Black.
Depicting family groups, the artworks reveal colonial life through period clothing, jewelry, occupations, leisure moments, and domestic interiors. Selected pieces come from the Museo de América and the Real Academia Española.
