Structured across a prologue and three acts, the narrative chronicles the exploits of Mackie Messer, also known as "Mack the Knife", a charismatic outlaw whose secret marriage to Polly Peachum enrages Jonathan Peachum. As the ruthless mastermind behind the city's network of beggars, Peachum conspires to deliver Mackie to the law to settle the score.

Matters spiral when police chief Tiger Brown, Mackie's longtime friend, attempts to shield him from imprisonment. Soon, street disturbances manipulated by Peachum force authorities to act, unveiling corruption, social inequality, and the dark parallels between capitalism and organized crime.
