🏺 The exhibition
The starting point is Rappelle-toi, Barbara!, the 1987 action in which Ouka Leele stopped the traffic around the Cibeles fountain to stage the myth of Hippomenes and Atalanta. From there, the show explores how photography, painting and visual culture crossed paths in the 1980s.
Classical mythology became a key tool to imagine the new reality of Spain's transition to democracy: from Ceesepe's comics and fanzines to El Hortelano's romanticism and Martín Begué's take on art history. Together they build a new mythology of Madrid.
🏛️ The venue
Sala Alcalá 31 is housed in the former Banco Mercantil e Industrial, a short walk from Sol. It is the Region of Madrid's main space for contemporary art, and entry is always free.
ℹ️ Tips: the room starts clearing 10 minutes before closing, and on Sunday it only opens in the morning. Metro Sevilla (L2) or Sol.
