📖 The work
Handel wrote this oratorio in barely three weeks in 1741 and premiered it in Dublin the following year. In three parts it follows the life of Christ, from prophecy and birth to passion and resurrection.
Over time it has become a Christmas tradition around the world. Hearing it on period instruments, as played by the Akademie für Alte Musik, brings out the light and agility its composer intended.
🏛️ The Teatro Real
Opened in 1850 opposite the Royal Palace, the Teatro Real is Spain's great opera house. Since reopening in 1997 it has become one of Europe's leading opera theatres, with its own productions touring the world's major stages.
ℹ️ Good to know: One performance only, so book early. Sung in English with surtitles.
✨ The world's most famous Hallelujah, with the sound of its time.
