📖 The opera
It is based on the play by Victorien Sardou, who also inspired Puccini's Tosca. Princess Fedora vows to avenge her fiancé's death and ends up falling in love with the man she is hunting.
Premiered in Milan in 1898 with Enrico Caruso in the cast, Fedora packs some of verismo's most passionate music, such as the aria Amor ti vieta, into three short acts.
🏛️ The Teatro Real
Opened in 1850 opposite the Royal Palace, the Teatro Real is Spain's great opera house. Since reopening in 1997 it has become one of Europe's leading opera theatres, with its own productions touring the world's major stages.
ℹ️ Good to know: Only two performances. Sung in Italian with surtitles.
✨ A great voice for one of verismo's most tragic heroines.
