Friday 9 October 2026
Sunday 10 January 2027
Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza (Madrid)
Paseo del Prado, 8, 28014 Madrid
Vermeer's View of Delft, one of the most famous landscapes in the history of painting, is on show in Madrid until 10 January. It arrives with 24 other masterpieces from the Mauritshuis in The Hague. 🎨🇳🇱
It is an exchange: in return, 25 paintings from the Thyssen travel to The Hague. The Dutch works hang in the museum's new classical galleries, next to the rooms devoted to the same school.

🖼️ What you will see
Twenty-five Dutch paintings made between 1615 and 1705, across three rooms. The first brings together still lifes and genre scenes by Gerard ter Borch, Pieter de Hooch, Gerrit Dou and Jan Steen. The second, landscapes and figure compositions by Rembrandt, Frans Hals, Jacob van Ruisdael and Hendrik Avercamp.
The third holds the two gems: The Garden of Eden with the Fall of Man, painted jointly by Jan Brueghel the Elder and Rubens, and Vermeer's View of Delft.
🏛️ A family story
The Thyssens' bond with Holland goes back a long way: Heinrich settled in The Hague in 1919, where his son Hans Heinrich was born. He started his collection by buying 17th-century Dutch masters.
ℹ️ Good to know: the exhibition is part of the permanent collection, so general admission covers it. Under-18s go free.
