🎼 The programme

The concert opens with the Coriolan Overture and Symphony No. 8 and builds to Symphony No. 9 Choral, with soloists Ruth Terán, Olga Syniakova, Eduardo Sandoval and David Cervera.

Premiered in Vienna in 1824, the Ninth was the first great symphony with chorus. Its finale, set to Schiller's poem, has become Europe's anthem and a symbol of hope and freedom.

🏛️ The Teatro Real

Opened in 1850 opposite the Royal Palace, the Teatro Real is Spain's great opera house. Since reopening in 1997 it has become one of Europe's leading opera theatres, with its own productions touring the world's major stages.

ℹ️ Good to know: A single midday performance that leaves the evening free for New Year's Eve.
