📍 Templo de Debod (Calle Ferraz, 1, Moncloa-Aravaca), Madrid

📖 An intimate battle through dance

Ten years after its original premiere, Guerrero returns to the stage as a mature and profound meditation on the passage of time. Freely inspired by Sun Tzu's The Art of War, the production transforms outward conflict into a poetic personal journey where the dancer's body converses directly with his personal memories and connections.

Guided by the symbolism of the red thread, the performance pays homage to the influential women in the artist's life. Accompanied by deep flamenco singing and guitar, the choreography explores a sense of masculinity rooted in listening, endurance, and care, demonstrating that true victory lies not in conquest, but in enduring.

🎭 The artist and 21distritos

Eduardo Guerrero stands as one of the most innovative and elegant figures in contemporary flamenco. Trained in Spanish dance in Cádiz, he honed his craft with celebrated creators like Eva Yerbabuena and Rocío Molina before launching his solo career in 2011. Honored with awards including the Jerez Festival Audience Award and the Premio Lorca, his work seamlessly bridges classic flamenco tradition and bold contemporary aesthetics.

✨ An exceptional flamenco encounter set against one of Madrid's most iconic historic backdrops.

Modern Mythologies: Ouka Leele & Co at Sala Alcalá 31
Tue,Wed,Thu,Fri,Sat,Sun

Last days to see one of Madrid's exhibitions of the year. Sala Alcalá 31 brings together Ouka Leele and the artists of La Movida who turned classical myths into pop language. It closes on Sunday 18 October. 🎨🏺

More than a hundred works by Ouka Leele, El Hortelano, Ceesepe, Carlos Franco, Costus, Sigfrido Martín Begué, Guillermo Pérez Villalta and Patricia Gadea.

🎨 MITOLOGÍAS MODERNAS: OUKA LEELE & CO

📅 Until Sunday 18 October 2026

🕐 Tuesday to Saturday, 11 am-8.30 pm · Sunday, 11 am-2 pm · Closed Mondays

📍 Sala Alcalá 31, Calle de Alcalá, 31, Madrid

🎟️ Free entry

🏺 The exhibition

The starting point is Rappelle-toi, Barbara!, the 1987 action in which Ouka Leele stopped the traffic around the Cibeles fountain to stage the myth of Hippomenes and Atalanta. From there, the show explores how photography, painting and visual culture crossed paths in the 1980s.

Classical mythology became a key tool to imagine the new reality of Spain's transition to democracy: from Ceesepe's comics and fanzines to El Hortelano's romanticism and Martín Begué's take on art history. Together they build a new mythology of Madrid.

🏛️ The venue

Sala Alcalá 31 is housed in the former Banco Mercantil e Industrial, a short walk from Sol. It is the Region of Madrid's main space for contemporary art, and entry is always free.

ℹ️ Tips: the room starts clearing 10 minutes before closing, and on Sunday it only opens in the morning. Metro Sevilla (L2) or Sol.

Following Après vous, Madame, dedicated to Antonia Mercé "La Argentina", this performance delves into the iconic figure of Pastora Imperio. The piece draws upon early 20th-century flamenco resonances, translating them into an innovative, modern choreographic vocabulary.

Rather than offering a traditional historical reconstruction, Comitre activates the past in the present. Flamenco tradition is treated as a living, transforming material, using the body, movement, and stagecraft to establish a dynamic exchange between memory and contemporary creation.

🎭 Artistic crossroads and avant-garde heritage

The work honors the trailblazing women essential to Spanish dance and flamenco, creators who forged strong ties with avant-garde movements and visual arts. This production embraces interdisciplinary connections typical of the Silver Age, setting the stage for the final piece of the trilogy.

📖 The Tragedy of Unfulfilled Longing

Described by Lorca himself as "a body of tragedy dressed in modern clothes," the drama depicts a heroine facing an inescapable destiny she refuses to accept, enduring the inevitable consequences of her choices.

Through poetic richness and deep emotional roots, this production taps into the ancestral essence of classical tragedy, balancing popular folklore with intellectual refinement and avant-garde staging.

🏛️ An Iconic Legacy at Teatro Español

The play shares an unbreakable bond with this venue, where actress Margarita Xirgu led its world premiere on December 29, 1934, marking one of the 20th century's defining theatrical moments in Spain.

Eduardo Vasco's direction honors Lorca’s lasting spirit in the very theatre he frequented, reviving the intense visual and poetic atmosphere of his crowning dramatic creation.
